The Sweetest Thing | Miles’s first trip to a cupcake shop
February 8, 2017Fact: My husband and I are late people. This is a true statement even though I hate to admit. Before we had Miles, we ran late to pretty much everything. I blame it on our inability to say no. We both try to fit in as much as possible and highly under estimate the time that it takes to get it all done. Now that we have a baby, our tardiness has gotten even worse, if we are 10-15 minutes late to something it’s “on time” in our book!
Right before these photos were taken, Miles and I were running late… (surprise, surprise!). We were just getting into the car at the time we were supposed be at our photoshoot. As we hurried down to Smallcakes I heard Miles rip the biggest fart ever, and of course, I thought nothing of it since our baby is no stranger to having adult sized gas. Once we arrived to the cupcake shop, I took Miles out of the car and discovered that he had blown out his diaper! His entire back was covered in orange sweet potato poo and — IT. WAS. EVERYWHERE. Already being so late, I was frantic. I kept thinking of course this would happen right now! I quickly grabbed some wet wipes cleaned his car seat and changed him in the back of the car. As I scoured through my diaper bag to see if I had any back up clothes, the only thing I was able to find was a black t-shirt and white long sleeve onesie. None of which went with the theme for our cute Valentine’s Day photo shoot. Since it was the only thing we had I just layered the shirts and we just went with it. (This why Miles is wearing black in our cupcake photoshoot & not his planned beige and light grey henley. ( #momlife am I right?)
So here are our photos. 45 minutes late, one poop filled diaper change, one stained baby henley and half of a package of wipes later. And although we were is incredibly late we were welcomed with a warm smile from the owner of Smallcakes. We had the absolute pleasure of working with Joshua the owner of the most charming and sweet little cupcake shop. He was so kind, and treated us like family. He showed us that nothing can turn your day around like an enthusiastic, passionate & charismatic small business owner and an extremely delicious box of cupcakes.
As we took these photos you can see the excitement in our little baby’s eyes, he wanted to grab a cupcake so badly. He kept reaching and reaching for the cupcakes we had perfectly laid out on the table. And the only thing that I kept thinking the entire time was, “please don’t attack this cupcake and get frosting all over the only shirt I have for you.”. Lucky for me, Miles didn’t get into a cupcake until the end of our shoot. As we were wrapping up our photos, he swiped his tiny hand right on top of a cupcake and, before I could grab his frosting covered hand he stuck it right in his mouth. Mind you, Miles is only 6 months old and had just started eating solids; the kid has never had sugar in his life! Instantaneously, he fell in love with frosting. He kept sucking his little hand as fast as he could like it was going to run away from him! So if you are looking for a sweet treat take it from him, you’ll instantaneous fall in love with the amazing cupcakes at Smallcakes.
