Summers in El Paso, are like turning on the AC in your car right after it has been sitting in the mall parking lot for hours. Hot. Dry. Air. Blowing in your face, (You know the feeling) just like a dry hot furnace is on. Since summers here are so warm, we made it a point to install ceiling fans throughout the house!
The first step to selecting a ceiling fan is measuring the room you are looking to install the fan in. Take a measuring tape and measure the length of the longest wall in room, this will give you a guide to what size fan you need to be looking for, for your room size.
As a rule of thumb:
If the length of the longest wall in the room Fan Size
Is Less than 12 Ft 36 inches or less
Between 12-15 Ft 40 – 48 inches
More than 15 Ft 52 inches or larger
What to do if you have vaulted ceilings?
If you have vaulted ceilings, it is defiantly recommended to hang your ceiling fan from a down rod, or a ceiling fan extension. Ceiling fan extensions can be used to increase proper airflow to a room, and helps the fan in stabilization to reduce wobbling. Down rods are typically sold separately and can be found at your local hardware store. They can range anywhere between $10-$30 depending on the size of rod you are purchasing.
Once you know the size of fan you need, it’s time to start shopping for the perfect fan to fit your room and style! Celling fans can cost an arm and a leg if you are not careful. As a helpful tip try to shop on major holiday weekends for extra savings, like Labor Day weekend or Memorial Day! Ceiling fans help cut down on the electric bill in the summers, and help your home keep cool while increasing air ciruclation. Here are my top modern- traditional fan picks under $250! My absolute favorite fan in the house is actually one we purchased from Lowesby Fanimation. Its apart of animation’s studio collection, called the slinger V2, its exclusively available at Lowes. It’s a industrial looking but it adds the perfect touch in our modern-traditional home.
