Life as a bag lady // Choosing the best diaper bag
September 6, 2016Just call me a bag lady, a modern day Mary Poppins if you will. At any given moment during the day I tote around an enormous bag filled with anything and everything that I might need in case of a freak accident scenario or actually…just a regular scenario….LOL because adventures with baby can be a tad bit messy.
Which leads me to writing this article about the importance of finding the right diaper bag. I used to think that having a great diaper bag wasnt that important until, I had a baby. Originally when I went out and bought a diaper bag I had no idea how much I would actually be carrying around and what I needed to look for in a diaper bag. Nowadays, as I go through day -to-day of life with baby, I can’t stress enough how much easier everything is when you have the right diaper bag that fits your lifestyle.
5 tips to choosing the best diaper bag
-
Size matters:When shopping for a diaper bag, keep in mind that storage space is incredibly important. In addition to the things you may need to bring for baby, you will also want to be able to fit the items you will want to bring for yourself as well. There’s always the option of bringing a purse and a diaper bag everywhere you go but, it is much easier and less hassle if you can just bring one bag that fits the needs of both you and your baby.
-
Find something light weight:It is SO easy to get caught up in all the bells and whistles that diaper bags have nowadays but, what many people don’t realize is that diaper bags can get very heavy VERY fast once you put all the items you need into it. If you get an authentic leather diaper bag although chic and trendy, it may weigh 15 lbs plus by the time you fill it with everything you might need. When shopping for a bag I encourage you to defiantly keep weight in mind. Find a place with an easy return policy so you can fill it up when get home and test its weight, that way, you won’t develop a case of mom shoulder from lugging around what feels like a bag of bricks.
-
Make sure it’s easy to carry:For some reason, diaper bags tend to be very boxy. Try on different diaper bags and keep in mind that once you put everything in it that it is still easy to carry, hangs well and is comfortable. You don’t want to be stuck with a huge boxy rectangle that sticks out and is uncomfortable to lug around.
-
Exterior Storage is key:While you’re out and about, there are just some things that you may want quick access to, for example, your cell phone, baby’s binky or their favorite toy. Having quick access pockets will save you from fumbling around in search of your must have items, when baby is having a mini melt down.
-
Durability: Make sure whatever bag you pick can withstand, getting wet, being set on the floor, and other minor bumps and scratches. You want to make sure that you have something durable to make your life easier and not harder. It is inevitable that your bag will end up on a bathroom floor while your frantically changing your baby in public somewhere. Picking a nag that’s durable and easy to clean will keep you calm and stress free.
