You’ve Been Boo’d! Safe Halloween Family Celebration Ideas
October 23, 2020We can all agree that this has been a wonky year. With the holidays just around the corner and Halloween just a few weeks away, we have to be creative as parents as we celebrate these holidays safely. With the rise in COVID numbers in our city and city ordinances getting stricter once again, we are seeing things that our little ones were looking forward to getting canceled once again.
A few weeks ago, I saw this idea about “Boo-ing” your neighbors. The idea is to anonymously bring treats and make someone’s day. I thought it would be a fun idea to spread a little kindness to those around us by adopting the tradition ourselves. Our kids had so much fun creating little BOO buckets and delivering the buckets of happiness to our neighbors. It taught them to think of others instead of themselves and focus on the joy in GIVING instead of getting.
The buckets were incredibly affordable to make, and were filled with a better-for-you Halloween alternative to candy, Sun-Maid’s Yogurt Covered Raisins in peanut butter and white and dark chocolate, hand sanitizer and a few coloring book activities for the kids! We love giving out Sun-Maid’s Yogurt Covered Raisins as a treat because they are made with whole fruit and are a twist on Sun-Maid’s classic California Sun-Dried Raisins. A coat of indulgent-flavored yogurt over Sun-Maid’s timeless & trusted raisins makes these treats a tasty, better-for-you snack option this Halloween season.
After shopping for all the items in our Boo buckets each bucket averaged about $6.50. We were able to make 4 buckets for just under $25.00! Everything we filled our basket with found in the the target dollar spot and similar items can be found at your local Walmart or Dollar tree. This was such an easy and cute activity to do with the kids and a great tradition to start from this year onward! Our boo buckets can be modified for families without kids, with simple items like – hand soap, sanitizer, chocolates, Sun maid Raisins and candles.
